The New Museums website was re-launched in late 2007 in conjunction with the opening of our new building on the Bowery and is characterized by outstanding design and rich content. The website continues to be a leader among its peers in the museum field.
The New Museum seeks a Webmaster who is responsible for maintaining and further developing newmuseum.org. The Webmaster also manages all e-communications to our public (members, donors, subscribers of our e-news, etc).
In addition, this position works closely with the Manager of Information Technology and Database Manager on the Digital Archive project. The Webmaster will receive training and familiarization of digital archive metadata structure, software front and back ends and digital archiving procedures.
The position reports to the Director of External Affairs.
HIGHLIGHT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain newmuseum.org and steward other New Museum sites
Design on brand and upload new content for website, newmuseum.org
Manage updates for all pages and up upload/add links, video, audio and images
Design tweaks to look and feel of website
Monitor performance of site (Google analytics), report monthly and make recommendations to improve traffic and content
Steward (in collaboration with Manager of IT) the development of other New Museum websites; liaising with and managing consultants and programmers to ensure cohesive integration and on brand design
E-Communications
Plan, organize and execute online outreach that will include: e-newsletters, evites, e-campaigns, blogging and viral marketing
Maintain all e-communications lists (Cooler system)
Work closely with Communications Director with e-outreach to press including dedicated mini websites for exhibitions
Implement online marketing projects to raise profile and extend brand
Digital Archive Project
Design changes to archive website
Train and supervise Digital Archive intern
Upload new assets on an ongoing basis as materials are approved for use
Other:
Design and upload Visitor Service Desk Plasma Screens
Oversee the LED sign on the façade (liaise with engineer when outages occur and reprogram middle line when necessary)
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must have undergraduate degree and 3 years minimum experience in the creation and maintenance of Internet and intranet solutions in a multimedia environment. The candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and good writing skills; is a team player, is sensitive to multiple departmental needs and has the ability to work under tight deadlines. Knowledge of contemporary art will be viewed favorably as well as experience in reaching our target demographic of 21-45 year olds.
The candidate enjoys working at the forefront of cutting edge design and technology and has vast knowledge of open source technologies, and researches online trends regarding social networking, email campaigns, podcasting, blogging, etc.
Technical skills include:
Solid front-end development: XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript/AJAX required
In-depth knowledge of at a least one JavaScript framework such as MooTools a plus
In-depth Knowledge of PHP and MySQL
Experience working with leading API (Google, Flicker, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Knowledge of Ruby/RAILS a plus
Knowledge of Flash, Flex, Air a plus
Overall knowledge of LAMP platform a plus
