Lycos is seeking an entry-level to mid-level visual designer/graphic designer to assist in designing new consumer web products and fine-tuning our existing products on an ongoing basis. The designer will work closely with product management and engineering in the entire product development life cycle, to come up with designs that fulfill consumer needs for each unique product while fitting well within the overall Lycos design guidelines.
Qualified candidates should have minimum of one year experience designing web products and a proven track record for creating elegant and impactful design solutions that improve and enhance consumer experience. You should be passionate about expressing product ideas in visual format through clear and creative user interfaces. Candidates should expect to submit work samples and/or a portfolio when requested.
Skills and Education Requirements for this role:
Minimum of one year visual design and/or graphic design experience for web product in a professional environment (internship included);
Strong command of visual design capabilities including composition, layout, information hierarchy, color judgment, graphic details;
Experience facilitating a user-centric design process and clearly communicating the design elements to a wide range of audiences (product management, engineering, sales, etc);
Solid grasp of web design principles and a good understanding of front-end web technologies (CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript);
Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, Flash experience helpful;
Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to pixel perfection;
Self-motivated and highly disciplined, comfortable working on multiple projects at the same time and managing tight deadlines;
Able to take constructive criticism from team members and adjust design to fit product needs;
B.A. or B.S. in visual arts, design, or related field required.
