Senior Web Developer
As Senior Web Developer, you will architect and build the technology to support thousands of consultants in our core programs and thousands more in their own work with social change organizations. You’ll build out our online community, connecting professionals and organizations so that everyone can donate their expertise, even if they don’t have money or time. You’ll create the smart tools to support Fortune 500 corporations, professional schools, and associations in their efforts to make pro bono part of everyone’s professional responsibility and career motivation. You’ll also build a tech team to keep it all going. By solving our technology challenges, you’ll help us change the way people work, and why, across the nation.

The Senior Web Developer will report to the Director of Product and Program Development and be based in San Francisco. This is an ideal role for an individual with a creative approach to development, great communication skills, and proven strategic thinking in a start-up environment, who wants to take on some managerial and operational responsibility. If you can grasp the big picture while finessing the right details, create innovative solutions for a mission-driven team, and build technical tools that motivate as well as they work, then this job is for you.

About the Taproot Foundation
Over the past eight years, the Taproot Foundation, led by one of the country’s leading social entrepreneurs, has made pro bono matter in the world of social change. Now we’re making pro bono even bigger—by 2020, we will create a $5 billion marketplace for pro bono services, bringing as much value to bear on social problems as all the country’s corporate foundations put together. We rely on innovation, and we’ve got the credits to prove it, like the Spotlight Award, California’s most prestigious award for innovation in service, and recognition from Fast Company, Social Venture Network, and Draper Richards, among others.

We also rely on technology, which is the only way to bring our work to scale, ensure quality, and support our internal staff and our community of professionals around the country in delivering millions of dollars worth of high-quality services each year. That $5 billion marketplace won’t happen without the right technology to support it.

Core responsibilities
· Support all aspects of Taproot’s technology platform, a unique system that combines CRM, resource management, project management, reporting, and financial management.
· Drive technical product direction and complete full-cycle development, from strategy to feature development to testing and maintenance.
· Build a small technology team, making the most of limited resources. All our teams are small, but we make big things happen. The right person for this position has consistently exceeded expectations in similar situations.
· Evaluate tech problems and build reusable, scalable solutions—quickly. You must relish creative, pressure-driven problem-solving.
· Drive good coding practices, quality control, and design that’s only as elegant as it needs to be—you’ll need an eye for detail as well as an appreciation of the big picture.

Requirements
· Must really understand our mission, and love it.
· 5+ years developing, launching, and debugging database-driven web-based applications.
· Extensive experience in a LAMP/PHP environment.
· Expert in designing and using relational databases with MySQL.
· Comfortable integrating Web 2.0 features such as user-generated content and social media.
· Competent in XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
· Proven success in an entrepreneurial environment.
· At least 1 year managing engineering resources or small teams.
· Hands-on experience in both coding and architecture.
· Experience in feature design—you can write good specs as well as build from them.
· Superb problem-solver for issues big and small, both alone and in teams.
· Rapid development style. We build iteratively and actively.
· A vivid technical imagination and a robust, commonly-deployed sense of humor.
· BS in Computer Science or equivalent.
· Must have permission to work in the U.S.
· This position is based in San Francisco, CA.

We are looking for passionate Junior Web Applications Engineer to join our growing team in downtown San Francisco. Joining the team you will have an immediate impact. You will be given a high level of responsibility and a high degree of freedom. Our team culture encourages you to come up with innovative solutions to problems. You’ll be joining a highly-collaborative team that embraces best practices and is focused on having world-class relationships.

Who are we?
SunRun provides a solution to homeowners who would like to power their residence using solar electricity but do not want to make a significant upfront capital investment or assume the risks, hassles and/or burdens of ownership. Instead, we purchase solar facilities for our homeowners and sell them electricity under long-term contracts. We guarantee electricity production; if anything breaks or needs repair, we fix it; we provide proactive, reliable real-time monitoring; we insure our solar facilities; and even wash them down. We are very well funded, having raised ample corporate funds from Accel Partners and Foundation Capital as well as project financing from US Bancorp.

SunRun is the fastest growing residential solar company in the country and has a mission to bring clean, solar power to the masses. SunRun is unique in that we bring together two exciting areas: Cleantech and Consumer services. At SunRun, we're all about bringing clean, solar power to the masses, and it is this singular mission that drives our team.

What will you do?
Your overall responsibility will be to help reduce the upfront cost of solar by making it brutally easy for our growing network of top-tier installation partners to tap into our proprietary pricing and proposal engine and make it easy - maybe even fun - for our residential customers and SunRun's own operations team to oversee how our solar systems are performing.

Job Responsibilities:
•	Maintain an extensive, dynamic document management system written in PHP
•	Write clean and readable PHP (Symfony)/Javascript/HTML/CSS code in a Linux / Apache / MySQL environment.
•	Write tests in PHPUnit and Selenium.
•	Troubleshoot cross browser issues.
•	Contribute to key architectural decisions that directly impact the scalability of the SunRun applications.
•	Collaborate with other developers to design complete solutions for new features and application components.
•	Think innovatively to help shape our agile software development processes and practices.
Qualifications:
•	1+ years of experience with PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
•	Linux, MySQL, Symfony, jQuery experience a plus
•	Strong communication skills.
•	Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
•	Simply excited about technology.
•	Key technologies: PHP (Symfony), Javascript (jQuery, Prototype), HTML, CSS, MySQL, Apache.

Why Join the SunRun Team?
Needless to say, there's never a dull moment here - we work genuinely hard but we love what we do and the culture we have built, where nobody takes themselves too seriously.
SunRun contributes to the following medical benefits for our employees:
•	3 PPO medical insurance options
•	Dental through Principal
•	Vision through VSP
•	Life, short term disability and accidental insurance at no cost to employees
We want our employees to have real lives, so we offer time off, including:
•	Vacation time up to 15 days during your first year of employment
•	11 paid holidays
•	9 sick days
We also want our employees to save for their future so we offer a:
•	401k & ROTH 401k.

We have some unique traditions that we participate in:
•	Bagel Mondays
•	Free lunch and company gatherings on Fridays
•	Free snacks and drinks
We want all our employees to feel ownership in the company, so we offer:
•	Stock options
We want to give back to our community so we provide employees with:
•	2 days paid time off to volunteer for their favorite charity
