Front-end Web Developer, Stanford University’s Alumni Websites and Online Community! (Job ID 36329)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The front-end web developer position will be responsible for the creation of web pages and the front-end of web based tools to support the Stanford alumni websites and online community. We are looking for an expert-level front-end web developer who will be responsible for the presentation level of the web properties. This role will work closely with both the designers, developers and product managers to create a great online experience for Stanford alumni that combines customized content, compelling design and excellent use of current technologies.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create web pages and tools for Stanford alumni websites using HTML, JavaScript and CSS.

• Make recommendations on design and layout to take better advantage of technologies.

• Serve as the front-end technical expert for all Stanford alumni web properties.

• Recommend and evaluate front-end web products and technologies

• Develop front-end coding standards and ensure that these standards are followed by the development team and client organizations using the tools developed for them.

• Train and support internal staff as needed in using new online systems and services.
• Special projects, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Expert level knowledge of front-end web development languages: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, DHTML, XHTML, XML, Ajax and DOM based development

• Expert level knowledge of HTML production, including cross-platform compatibility issues, download-time optimization, and software for HTML editing such as Dreamweaver
• Must be able to hand code HTML

• Experience working with JavaScript libraries such as YUI and Scriptaculous

• Knowledge and experience with RSS or Atom XML feeds

• Strong knowledge of web usability and information architecture

• Experience working with open source tools

• Experience working with Flash

• Strong knowledge of content management systems such as TeamSite

• Advanced knowledge of image editing and manipulation software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and ImageReady

• Thorough knowledge of Internet technologies, tools & trends, Internet practices & vendors, traditional & new media communication methods & mechanisms

• Experience with technologies for streaming data & web casting, electronic commerce & secure transactions and web tracking

• 5+ years of successful experience in developing, executing & managing online projects, including meeting numerous deadlines and objectives w/limited resources

• Must be able to handle multiple concurrent projects

• A Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent experience

• Comfortable working in a team environment

• This position is required to be on site
